Close contests on card for Al Daayen and Doha Cups

5 December 2017

In his last eight outings, the Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari-owned CAID DE L'ARDUS (Mahabb x Jelfa De L'Ardus) never finished outside the top two, winning six of those runs, from six furlongs to a mile. The Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi-trained horse is in prime form, topping his first race of the season a month ago. On Wednesday, in the Al Daayen Cup, a Purebred Arabian conditions event over six furlongs on dirt, the 5yo will look to continue his impressive form under Champion Jockey Harry Bentley.

SAMJIDA (Majd al Arab x CR Samborsta) will make her season debut, giving her stablemate company, even as Abdulla Sultan Ahmed Al Jabir's MUTAZZ (Amer x Zeinah), also rated 109 like Samjida, will look to bounce back from a disappointing start to the season last month.

Mohanad Jassim Al Yaqout's M.J LATTAM (AF AlBahar x Menwat Al Jazeera) and Hassan Ali Hassan Al Matwi's SAMHAN AL SHAJAA (Zaeem Al Shajaa x Al Moqawama) will look to make it two straight wins this season, having won over the course and distance last time out. Mohammed Khalid Hamad Al Khalifa's SAAB (AF Albahar x Fille Des Sables) will make his season debut.

In the final race of the day, Doha Cup for local Purebred Arabians, some top three finishers will look to land a victory over 1800m. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani's REDA (Burning Sand x Ba'scherit) and Injaaz Stud's AL MARBOUSH (Amer x Qadira De Faust) both started their season with third place finishes last month, while Saeed Mohammed Shafi Al Shafi's NOMAAS (Hatteen x Raleuse De Faust) had to settle for the runner up place twice last month. All three will look to make the most of Wednesday's outing.

The nine-race card, which will begin at 4pm, will open with a Local Purebred Arabian Novice Plate event for Qatari riders only, followed by two maiden plate and one graduation plate events. Then, there will be three handicap races for Thoroughbreds before the features.
