The eight race card on Thursday will conclude with two Cup races – Al Wukair Cup, a mile long race for the local Thoroughbreds, and Al Safliya Cup, a 2400m listed race for Thoroughbreds.
Ibrahim Al Malki trained AL MUNTATHAR (AF AlBahar x Intifadah) made it two in two when Eduardo Pedroza rode the Sheikh Ahmed Bin Jassim Bin Thani Al Thani's colt to his second straight victory in a week.
The card shows nine horses will line up for Wednesday’s feature, the Al Ruwais Cup, a 1900m handicap race for Purebred Arabians. Barring two, all others have already made their starts to the season, and some with even a win.
The Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari-owned CAID DE L’ARDUS (Mahabb x Jelfa De L'Ardus) held on well from an attacking TM THUNDER STRUCK (Majd al Arab x Bonnett) to win Thursday’s feature on turf in a thrilling finish.
Champion Trainer Jassim Ghazali won five out of the eight races on the card, including the 1900m feature on dirt on Wednesday, 8 November. Ridden by Pierantonio Convertino
TM THUNDER STRUCK (Majd al Arab x Bonnett) will carry the hopes of Umm Qarn and trainer Alban de Mieulle in Thursday’s feature, Umm Garn Cup. The mile-long run on turf, with a total prize money of QR 100,000, will see SEHAB (Nizam x Kachia), join stablemate TM Thunder Struck, to be ridden by Jean Baptiste Hamel. TM Thunder Struck finished last season with two straight wins and has rested for quite a bit.
