Umm Garn Cup to feature third race meeting

8 November 2017

TM THUNDER STRUCK (Majd al Arab x Bonnett) will carry the hopes of Umm Qarn and trainer Alban de Mieulle in Thursday’s feature, Umm Garn Cup. The mile-long run on turf, with a total prize money of QR 100,000, will see SEHAB (Nizam x Kachia), join stablemate TM Thunder Struck, to be ridden by Jean Baptiste Hamel. TM Thunder Struck finished last season with two straight wins and has rested for quite a bit.

Julian Smart’s hopes will be on SHABIH ALREEH (Jaafer ASF x Queen Kong), to be ridden by Saleem Golam in the colours of H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani, while the Pierre Deymonaz-saddled MAHESS DU SOLEIL (Dahess x Dormah De Brugere) will be helmed by Marvin Suerland.

The Jassim Ghazali-trained CAID DE L’ARDUS (Mahabb x Jelfa De L'Ardus) had a forgettable opening to his Qatar stint last season over the same course and distance, but has since notched seven top-two finishes, including five wins, and shall be gunning for an impressive finish under Pierantonio Convertino.

Hadi Al Ramzani will have two Al Jeryan Stud runners in the race, including AJS ANFOWAN (Amer x Svetlana) and ALMUHEET (AF Albahar x Maboud), while the Mohammed Salama Ashour-saddled ZAMEER (Dahess x Djurdjura) will hope to notch up his fifth career win.

The eight race card, which has a total prize purse of QR490,000 and begins at 4:30pm at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, will begin with two maiden races for Purebred Arabians. The card also has three handicap races for Thoroughbreds, a local Arabians handicap, and a Class 2 Thoroughbred Plate event.
