Al Shaqab Racing celebrated another 2-year-old winner to mark the end of the year when CHORBA ran out the comfortable winner of the Prix de la Gagnerie, a newcomer race at Deauville on Saturday, 14 December. The bay filly is by Al Shaqab Racing’s stallion Olympic Glory and was also bred by Al Shaqab Racing at Haras de Bouquetot.

Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, she jumped smartly to find herself on the lead with GOLNAR (POUR MOI) on her flanks. She set a good pace throughout the 1900m race, which was run on the all-weather track. Once in the straight, jockey Cristian Demuro began to give CHORBA gentle encouragement and she showed a smart acceleration to pull clear and win by two and a half lengths, never worried by the opposition. The A & G Botti-trained and Rosario Mangione-ridden JUILLEY (MASTERCRAFTSMAN) finished in second, with the Henry Alex Pantall-trained and Vincent Cheminaud-ridden GOLNAR a further neck behind in third.

“I didn’t want to go in front, but she was on the bridle, so I let her go on”, commented winning jockey Demuro after the race, “When she accelerated in the straight, I knew that she had come clear of the pack. I am very happy with the way she ran today.”
