Owned and bred by Al Shaqab Racing, SNAN (Al Mamun Monlau) put in a remarkable performance to break his maiden on first time of asking in the Prix Magicienne on the all-weather track at Pau. He also did so despite the disadvantage of facing more experienced opposition. Travelling mid-division throughout, the race was led at a decent pace by AL MAHBOOBA (MADJANI). Once in the final stages, jockey Julian Auge patiently waited for an opening, and once his partner settled in his stride, he unleashed him in the final furlong. He took the lead in a matter of strides, winning by a short head in front of ZULFAKKAR (AF ALBAHAR) who runs in the colours of HE Sheikh Mohammed Bin Faleh Al Thani.
Thomas Fourcy, who trained the winner, commented, “He is quite an immature colt. It was a bit of a messy win. If the race had opened up for him earlier, I think he would have won by a much greater margin. I think he will improve a lot from this run and will be better on a grass track. Once he has matured in his mentality, he could be a very good horse.”
SNAN is by the Al Shaqab stallion Al Mamun Monlau, as was the third-place finisher in this race, JUGURTHA DE MONLAU. SNAN is out of the TORNADO DE SYRAH mare NEVADA DE CARDONNE, who has already produced two winners. She is great-granddaughter of foundation mare NEVADA, through the blue hen NEVADOUR.
