Al Balushi guides RASSAN to Fuweiret Cup sprint victory

Jassim Bin Ali Al Attiyah’s RASSAN (Amer x Sandytiki) led a one two for champion trainer Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi in the FUWEIRET CUP (PUREBRED ARABIAN CONDITIONS), Wednesday’s feature on dirt at Al Rayyan Park. In the six furlong sprint, Al Moatasem Al Balushi helmed the 9yo Rassan to a comfortable two lengths and a quarter victory as Harry Bentley helmed Caid De L’Ardus (Mahabb x Jelfa De L’Ardus) in the 7yo’s second straight runner up finish. Ahmed Mohamad Kobeissi trained Ateej (AF AlBahar x Sahara Croixnoire) completed the top three under Eduardo Pedroza.

In the penultimate race of the day, Abdulaziz Ali Al Kathiri saddled CRISTOFANO ALLORI (Shamardal x Perfect Touch) went one better than his last outing to register his first victory this season. With Stephan Ladjadj in the saddle, the 5yo had never finished outside the top four this season even as his fourth win was hard to come by. In Wednesday’s THOROUGHBRED CONDITIONS (Class 2), the 5yo edged out two of Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki’s wards — Victory Laurel and Shobrom — at the post by half a length for a fine win.

Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi’s MUNIRA EYES (Cape Blanco x Desert Sky) has been consistent this season finishing in the frame in every race, including a handicap victory in November. Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki’s ward took another sprint victory with Eduardo Pedroza in the saddle, as they topped the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 3) (75-95) with the 6yo colt going past the post in the six furlong run with three lengths and a quarter to spare.

Ali Yousuf Al Kubaisi’s SUPREMATISM (More Than Ready x Exotic Behavior) had finished in the frame every time since a maiden run in December, even as a win eluded the Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani trained colt. Since then the 4yo has steadily moved up in class and on Wednesday, the 4yo even notched his first career win with Tomas Lukasek riding the colt to a comfortable two and a half length victory in the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 4) (80 & below).

Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi trained ATTAF (Footstepsinthesand x Silver Sycamore) didn’t exactly make a satisfactory handicap debut three weeks ago despite shedding his maiden status last month. On Wednesday the Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s colt raced to a fine victory in the 1700m LOCAL THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (75 & below) under Harry Bentley, as they went past the post a length and quarter ahead of the competition.

Building on some credible performances over C&D, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s ENNAB (Munjiz x Areej) finally stepped into the winner’s circle for the first time on Wednesday. In the 1700m PUREBRED ARABIAN HANDICAP (70 & below), Anas Al Seyabi partnered with Julian Colin Smart’s charge for the first time and the two did enough to edge out Mohammed Hussain Afroz’s Fanann by a head at the post.

Back in competitive action after a gap of almost 16 months, Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s VEDEVANI (Dubawi x Vadawina) was spectacular in the 1900m THOROUGHBRED GRADUATION PLATE (Class 5) on Wednesday. A drop in class and a move to dirt worked for the 6yo as JP Guillambert helmed the Mohammed Jassim Ghazali Jahromi colt to a dominant victory with eight lengths and three quarters to spare.

Umm Qarn’s GARRAFFAH (Tabarak x Seffa Du Breuil) was in a league of his own in the first race of the day on Wednesday. In the PUREBRED ARABIAN MAIDEN PLATE (4-6yo), the Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle charge had Ronan Thomas for company and the two raced to a dominant 15 length victory in the 1900m run, brushing aside a few midfield finishes.
