Al Balushi helms RASSAN to Club Cup sprint victory

Jassim Bin Ali Al Attiyah’s RASSAN (Amer x Sandytiki) went one better than his performance in the last year’s edition of the CLUB CUP (THE LATE SAEED BIN AHMED AL KUWARI), Wednesday’s feature on dirt at Al Rayyan Park. In the final race of the penultimate day of the season, Rassan had Al Moatasem Al Balushi for company in the saddle, and the two had little trouble racing to a comfortable victory. Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi’s ward won by two lengths at the post, beating Tadgh O’Shea ridden KASSER (AF Albahar x Wujdan) for the win. Tomas Lukasek helmed ATEEJ (AF AlBahar x Sahara Croixnoire) to third place in the six furlong sprint.

The penultimate race of the day, PUREBRED ARABIAN CONDITIONS, was always going to be between Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s SPAGHETTI (Snoopi x Nouillaugratin) and Umm Qarn’s Dabaab, who had four victories from six races this season. It was apprentice rider Alexis Pouchin and his 7yo mount Spaghetti, trained by champion trainer Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi, that eased through to victory with two and a half lengths to spare, as Mathieu Pelletan helmed Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle’s ward to her second runner-up finish this season.

In a thrilling finish to the THOROUGHBRED CONDITIONS (Class 2), the father and son trainer duo of Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi and Mohammed Jassim Ghazali Jahromi had their wards locked in a dead heat with not even the photographs being able to separate Meshaal Bin Ali Al Attiyah’s ALMIGDAM (Footstepsinthesand x Know) and Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s ALTARSHEED (Lilbourne Lad x Lilakiya). Apprentice rider Alexis Pouchin impressed with his ride astride Altarsheed, who now has a hat-trick of top finishes, while Theo Bachelot helmed Almigdam in the colt’s fifth victory since January this year.

Qatari jockey Faleh Bughanaim match his last season’s win tally astride Abdulaziz Ali Al Kathiri’s CRISTOFANO ALLORI (Shamardal x Perfect Touch) on Wednesday. A switch to turf hadn’t worked well for the 5yo last time round, but moving back to dirt, the colt was once again in the winner’s circle for second time in a month, winning the six furlong THOROUGHBRED CONDITIONS (Class 2) sprint by three quarters of a length. It was Bughanaim’s 20th winner this season.

Al Ghazali Stud’s DHEBAN (Exceed And Excel x Comeback Queen) showed improvement this month having finished in the top five twice coming into Wednesday’s C&D run. Stepping up in class, the Mohammed Riyaz Ibrahim Kasim trained gelding had apprentice jockey Ali Khalid Al Mosallam for company and the Qatari put up a fantastic ride as they went past the post with three lengths to spare. The win was Qatari rider’s fifth this season.

A year after he had missed out on a win in the event, Rumailah Stud’s CONNERY (Clodovil x Ringarooma) went one better to register his first win in Qatar for trainer Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki. The gelding had Anas Al Seyabi in the saddle and the two put together a scintillating run on the straight in the six furlong THOROUGHBRED NOVICE PLATE (Class 6) sprint for a fantastic six length victory on Wednesday.

Jockey Alexis Pouchin rode the second straight winner of the day when he was at the helm of Mohammed Jassim Ghazali Jahromi trained RODINA (Munjiz x Al Naamah) in the second race of the day on Wednesday. The Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari owned filly came into the six furlong LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN MAIDEN PLATE on the back of four straight top five finishes, and did well to take the victory in the sprint by two lengths.

Injaaz Stud’s INSIJAM (Camacho x Musical Horizon) topped the first race of the day as Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi’s ward shed her maiden status on her tenth outing. Apprentice rider Alexs Pouchin rode the 4yo filly for the first time and the duo did well to cross the post an impressive three lengths and a quarter ahead of the rivals in the nine furlong LOCAL THOROUGHBRED MAIDEN PLATE (4-6yo).
