The Al Shaqab Racing-bred and owned HAAYEM (FR) [OLYMPIC GLORY (IRE) X ALMAARDIYAH (IRE)] made it second time lucky winning the Bombardier Novice Stakes at Wolverhampton, UK on Sunday 7 March. While arriving at the 1400m race for three-year-old and older horses as a massive outsider, the four-year-old bay gelding showed a lot of improvement since his debut on the same track three weeks earlier. There was much to like this time about Richard Hannon’s ward, who seemed to have benefited a lot from his first experience. With apprentice Luke Catton in the saddle, HAAYEM fought hard to emerge victorious by a neck in front of the runner-up, the John Quinn-trained and Jason Hart-ridden BUSINESS (FR). The Simon Crisford–trained ROCK OF DIAMONDS (IRE) was further one and a half lengths behind in third under Jack Mitchell.
