Al Walid, AJS Jood, Black Pearl race to cup victories

Al Shaqab Racing’s Al Walid (Dahess x Al Sarwa) raced to his second straight victory and in the process led a one-two for trainer Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle in the MUSHEIREB CUP (PA) at the Al Rayyan Park’s turf track on Thursday. The 6yo had Qatar’s Faleh Bughanaim in the saddle and the jockey did well to guide his mount to a one and a half length victory, which was also his 19th this season. Ronan Thomas helmed Umm Qarn’s Sehab (Nizam x Kachia) to second place while She’ris (Marked Al Sahra x Kerbelle Du Loup) finished third under Adnan Hawa.

Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani schooled AJS Jood (AF AlBahar x Nouba Al Maury) had finished midfield on his debut last month. But the Al Jeryan Stud colt put up a much improved performance under Tomas Lukasek in the penultimate race of the day on Thursday. The 3yo finished a comfortable two lengths ahead of second placed Al Adeed Al Jeryan (AF AlBahar x Rasheedat Al Jeryan), ridden by Ivan Rossi, to win the QATARI BREEDERS CUP (3yo PA). Mathieu Pelletan helmed Joudy (Seraphin Du Pain x Tarabulus Al Wasmiya) to third.

Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi’s Black Pearl (Footstepsinthesand x Ella) made a smashing debut on Thursday. In the MESAIEED CUP (3yo Local Thoroughbreds), the Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki trained gelding had Ivan Rossi in the saddle and the two did enough to go past the post three quarters of a length ahead of Ronan Thomas ridden Wadhah (Abide With Me x Viola D’Amore), while Al Harqah (Storm Account x Adventuress) was third under Anas Al Seyabi.

After narrowly missing out on a win last time out earlier this month, Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi’s ward, MOLHEB AL NAIF (Amer x Kesbah) enhanced his strike rate with his 14th victory in 20 outings on Thursday. In the 1850m LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN CONDITIONS, the Al Naif Racing horse had apprentice jockey Alexis Pouchin for company and the duo were impressive as they raced to a dominant victory with six lengths and a quarter to spare. It was Pouchin’s first career winner.

Qatari jockey Faleh Bughanaim guided his 18th winner of the season when he helmed Al Shaqab Racing’s AL DAWOODEA (Nizam x Marido) to victory on Thursday. In the seven furlong PUREBRED ARABIAN HANDICAP (95 & below), the Hossin Mohammad Ashour trained filly improved over her last week’s third place finish in a conditions event to pick up her first win of the season with a length and a quarter to spare.

For the second straight outing in a week Al Jeryan Stud’s RANDOM DECISION (Exceed and Excel x Connote) led a one-two for trainer Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani. The gelding had won a C&D handicap run a week back under Tomas Lukasek. On Thursday, with Tadgh O’Shea in the saddle, the 4yo topped the six furlong THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 4) (85 & below), with stablemate On The Front Line in runner up spot once again.

A C&D runner up finish perhaps augured well for H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s TAISH (Jaafer ASF x Abigaille) when the filly entered Thursday’s PUREBRED ARABIAN MAIDEN PLATE. In the 2400m race, Anas Al Seyabi was astride the Julian Colin Smart saddled 4yo for the first time in her short career so far, and the duo did well to edge out Jimmy Quinn ridden Fuwairat by a neck for her first win from five outings.

Umm Qarn’s MEHDI (Majd Al Arab x Jaljalah) had impressed many with his maiden win over 2200m last month. With Ronan Thomas in the saddle again for Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle trained colt, the 4yo made it two from two in comfortable fashion, winning the 1850m LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN NOVICE PLATE with three lengths and a quarter to spare at the post.
