Anas Al Seyabi rides AJS WATHANAN to Al Wakra Cup victory

Al Ghazali Stud’s AJS WATHANAN (Amer x Mangaline Du Loup) bounced back from a forgettable finish last time round to win the AL WAKRA CUP (LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN HANDICAP Rated 90 & Below) at the Al Rayyan Park dirt track on Wednesday. The gelding, however, picked up his second C&D victory, having won a 1900m handicap in January. With Anas Al Seyabi in the saddle, the 7yo won in spectacular fashion beating Alexis Pouchin ridden NOMAS AL SHAJAA (AF AlBahas x Balqees) by six lengths and a quarter at the post while, Al Moatasem Al Balushi helmed AJS AL MOHEEB (Amer x Gabie De Carrere) to third. The win was the champion trainer’s third on the day.

Umm Qarn’s GARRAFFAH (Tabarak x Seffa Du Breuil) led a one two for trainer Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle and the owners on Wednesday. The 4yo, who had won his last outing under Ronan Thomas, partnered yet again with the jockey to register his second straight victory, with the duo topping the PUREBRED ARABIAN PLATE (4 Year Olds) with a length in hand. Mathieu Pelletan guided stablemate Badda to a creditable second.

Al Ghazali Stud’s LEKHRAIB (AF AlBahar x Grace T) went one better than his last two outings. Last month, the Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi trained colt had shed his maiden status over a mile. On Wednesday, the 5yo had Al Moatasem Al Balushi in the saddle for the second straight race, and the two bagged the six furlong PUREBRED ARABIAN HANDICAP (80 & below) with a dominant four lengths and a quarter victory.

Injaaz Stud’s AL HUWAILAH (Samum x Medinella) showed versatility over distance when the Mohammed Jassim Ghazali Jahromi trained filly won a 1700m run on Wednesday. The 5yo had won a six furlong sprint last week, and the move up in distance did not prove a dampener as Al Moatasem Al Balushi guided her to a comfortable two lengths and a quarter victory at the post in the LOCAL THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (75 & below).

at Al Rayyan Park. However, running for the first time on dirt, the Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle charge produced a thrilling run under Ronan Thomas. In the 1700m PUREBRED ARABIAN GRADUATION PLATE, the 4yo won a thrilling duel on the home straight, edging out Zuhair Mohsen Zuhair Maki’s Jabal Aramoon by a nose to enter the winner’s circle.

After finishing third last week behind Noble Ancestry over C&D, Al Jasra Stud’s NAUTICAL MILE (Sir Prancealot x Three Knots) lined up yet again for a 1900m run on dirt, and with Ivan Rossi in the saddle, the 4yo registered his first victory in 11 outings so far. In the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 5) (70 & below), the Tareq Essa Abdulla trained gelding beat Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi schooled Noble Ancestry by a length and three quarters for a fine win.

Qatari rider Ali Khalid Al Mosallam surpassed his previous best tally of three victories with a fourth one this season on Wednesday. In the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 5) (Qatari Riders Only) (70 & below), the apprentice jockey was in the saddle for LO DE NALANE (Pivotal x Ilhabela), trained by Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi, in the six furlong sprint. Al Mosallam helmed the Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari owned colt to a comfortable two and a half-length victory.

Osama Omer Al Dafea’s HITCHSLAP (Sepoy x Foot Of Pride) had opened her season in Qatar well with a runner-up finish but had left lot to be desired for as the season progressed. On Wednesday, the 3yo had Anas Al Seyabi as a partner for the first time in her career and the two did well as the filly shed her maiden status on her eighth outing at Al Rayyan Park. She edged out Ivan Rossi ridden Show Of Strength by a neck to win the six furlong THOROUGHBRED MAIDEN PLATE (Class 6)
