ATEEJ clinches The Late Rabiah Saad Al-Kaabi Cup thriller

Ateej’s run of in-frame finishes in Qatar continued as the Ahmed Mohamad Kobeissi saddled horse won the miler by a neck over Gassim Mohammad Ghazali schooled Spaghetti (Snoopi x Nouillaugratin), with Harry Bentley in the saddle, at the post. Six lengths behind the duel, Soufiane Saadi guided Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle trained Meelad (Azadi x Al Dahma) to a third place finish.

Injaaz Stud’s BLACK GRANITE (Dark Angel x Glisten) led a one-two for Champion Trainer Gassim Mohammad Ghazali in the THOROUGHBRED CONDITIONS (Class 2) on Thursday. This was the second straight year that the gelding won the seven furlong event and this time it was Champion Jockey Harry Bentley in the saddle. Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s Hydroxide finished second one and a half lengths behind under Luca Maniezzi.

Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani and Tomas Lukasek combined well for the second straight race on the day when ARABIC CHANNEL (English Channel x Mahogany Lane) topped the THOROUGHBRED PLATE (3 Year Olds) (Class 2). It was the third race were the Al Jeryan Stud colours entered the winner’s circle on the day and a fantastic moment for Al Ramzani whose wards locked the top three spots with Rex Place and Venedegar finishing second and third respectively.

Al Jeryan Stud’s AJS AL MAHA (AF AlBahar x Nevadour Al Maury) was the second winner on the day for Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani. Having finished sixth over C&D to close out the previous season, the mare won the mile long LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN HANDICAP (85 & below) in fine fashion under Tomas Lukasek. The 6yo beat Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle trained Sealine, unbeaten in two starts coming into the Thursday run on turf, by one and a half lengths.

Abdulhadi Mana al-Hajri’s PETTIFOGGER (Lope De Vega x Desert Version) made a winning debut in Qatar on Thursday. Saddled by Stefano Ibido, the gelding had Luca Maniezzi for company in the saddle in the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 4) (85 & below). The two started wide in the miler before eventually holding the advantage at the post by two lengths for a comfortable victory.

Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik’s BEACH SAMBA (Lope De Verga x Braziliz) made a winning return on dirt last week and made it two from two in the new season on Thursday. In the seven furlong THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 4) (80 & below), Ryan Curatolo helmed the gelding to a fine victory over Mohammed Hamad Al Attiya trained Geno, ridden by apprentice rider Gary Sanchez, winning by a length and a quarter.

Jassim Bin Ali Al Attiyah’s PRINCE AMER (Amer x Amindala Princess) bounced back from a forgettable finish to his previous season with a comfortable win to kick off his new campaign. On Thursday, with Luca Maniezzi riding for trainer Gassim Mohammad Ghazali, the colt started wide out before nailing the mile long PUREBRED ARABIAN GRADUATION PLATE with two lengths and a quarter to spare, halting Bin General’s two race win streak.

Al Jeryan Stud’s AJS AL AREDH (Majd Al Arab x Karreema) brushed aside a forgettable last season to shed his maiden status on his 10th career outing. In the seven furlong LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN MAIDEN PLATE, the Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani schooled gelding partnered Carlos Henrique for the first time and the duo edged out JP Guillambert ridden Hazm Al Sulaimi by a short head.

Starting late last season, Al Shahania Stud’s ANNAB (Amer x Arc De Ciel) had run creditable efforts finishing in the frame in both his starts. On Thursday, the Gassim Mohammad Ghazali ward showed some amazing pace under Harry Bentley to finish five lengths and three quarters ahead of the competition to win the mile long PUREBRED ARABIAN MAIDEN PLATE in dominant fashion.
