After missing out on a feature win two weeks ago, Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s FESTIVE (Literato x Path Of Life) was in the winner’s circle for the fourth time in her career when the Gassim Mohammad Ghazali trained filly won the QATAR CUP (THOROUGHBRED CONDITIONS (FILLIES & MARES)) at Al Rayyan Park on Wednesday. The 1700m run saw the Harry Bentley ridden 5yo lead a one-two for the Champion Trainer with Shaheen Bin Khalid Shaheen Al Ghanim’s HILLSIDE DREAM (Dream Ahead x Knapton Hill) finishing second under Pierantonio Convertino. Ghazali’s son, Mohammed, saddled third placed MUALAH (Camelot x Aqua Aura) with Anas Al Seyabi in the saddle.
Sheikh Khalid Bin Jassim Bin Thani Al Thani’s ADMIRAL (Shamardal x Raheeba) last finished outside the frame in April of last year, and that creditable run of results continued for Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki’s ward as the 5yo registered his second career victory in the LOCAL THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (75 & below). In the 1700m run, Admiral had Eduardo Pedroza in the saddle and they picked up a comfortable four and a half length victory to lead a sweep of the top three spots by Al Malki wards, with Mister Mahjoob and Hashtag Al Galayel finishing second and third respectively.
Jassim Bin Ali Al Attiyah’s ANEEQ (Majd Al Arab x Zalzalah) was running C&D for the last four times and the colt impressed with three frame finishes. On Wednesday, the 5yo, trained by Ahmed Mohamad Kobeissi, had Ryan Curatolo for company for the second time and the duo ran a fantastic race in the 1700m PUREBRED ARABIAN HANDICAP (70 & below), picking up pace off the bend and pulling away comfortably for an eight length victory.
Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s VEDEVANI (Dubawi x Vadawina) made his preference for dirt and the distance of 1900m amply clear when he registered his second C&D victory on Wednesday. Mohammed Gassim Ghazali’s ward had a C&D victory under JP Guillambert in March this year, and on Wednesday, with Guillambert once again in the saddle, the 6yo held off a fine challenge from Ali Yousuf Al Kubaisi trained Almakfee to win by a length in the THOROUGHBRED GRADUATION PLATE (Class 5).
Qatar bred KAHILA TEXAS (TM Fred Texas x Adeem Al Naif) brushed aside a forgettable finish on her last outing in the previous season to shed her maiden status on Wednesday. Ridden by Gary Sanchez in the colours of Rashid Fahad Omair Al Jaber Al Nuaimi, the 4yo beat another home bred filly, Diyala, by half a length at the post to win the 1700m PUREBRED ARABIAN MAIDEN PLATE (Fillies & Mares).
Khalifa Bin Sheail al Kuwari’s FAADI (Burning Sand x Hareq ASF) registered his first career win when the colt topped the PUREBRED ARABIAN MAIDEN PLATE (3 Year Olds) on Wednesday. In the six furlong sprint on dirt, JP Guillambert partnered Mohammed Gassim Ghazali’s ward and the duo were a dominant force together as they went past the post a mammoth eight lengths and a quarter to spare over the competition.
Salem Fadgham Al Hajri saddled his first winner of the season when Qatari apprentice rider Rashid Ali Al Marri rode VOLAGE (Motivator x Light My Way) to a thrilling victory in the THOROUGHBRED MAIDEN PLATE (Class 6). The six furlong race saw 4yo jostle for advantage upfront with a few other contenders before he marginally upped the pace coming off the bend. A turn of foot from JP Guillambert ridden Don Logan threatened Volage in the final furlong but ran out of real estate as the latter picked up a victory.
A third place finish over C&D two weeks ago was a good stepping stone for Al Jeryan Stud’s SARAT ABHA (Footstepsinthesand x Shesamystery) who went on to register her maiden victory on her 14th career outing in the LOCAL THOROUGHBRED MAIDEN PLATE. In the six furlong sprint, the Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani schooled filly moved on to the rails early on under Carlos Henrique and then kept steadily building her advantage till she went past the post five lengths and three quarters ahead of the competition.
