Bughanaim rides Al Shaqab’s AL DAWOODEA to Dukhan Cup win

DUKHAN CUP (4yo and older fillies and mares)

Al Shaqab Racing’s AL DAWOODEA (Nizam x Marido) registered her first victory at QREC when talented Qatari jockey Faleh Bughanaim guided the 4yo to a fine win in the 1700m feature on dirt on Wednesday. Hossin Mohammad Ashour’s ward had finished in the frame on her first two outings, including a third place in Qatar Derby (Gr3 PA) two weeks ago. On Wednesday, Bughanaim, riding the filly for the third straight time, guided her to a fine victory over the Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari-owned SAMJIDA (Majd al Arab x CR Samborsta), ridden by Harry Bentley for Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi. Samjida made it to the runner-up spot finishing a length ahead of Julian Colin Smart’s ward HAGWA (Burning Sand x Mataleb ASF) under Theo Bachelot.

The only lady in the eight horse competition, Injaaz Stud’s My Sharona (Dark Angel x Tanda Tula), won the 1000m sprint comfortably. The win, second on the day for trainer Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi and jockey Harry Bentley together, saw the 9yo, who had finished in the top two in each of her runs this season, finished a little over a length ahead of Mohammed Hussain Afroz’s RISK ADJUSTED (Bushranger x Silk Fan), helmed by Gerald Avranche while Mohammed Jassim Ghazali Jahromi’s ASTLEY HALL (Dutch Art x Haigh Hall) was third under JP Guillambert.

Al Shahania Stud’s SHABAH (Amer x Arc De Ciel) stayed unbeaten, notching up a hat-trick of wins this season, topping the 1900m run on Wednesday. Julian Colin Smart’s ward made his preference for dirt clear, having also won his first two runs on the surface earlier this season, when Theo Bachelot guided the 6yo to a fine win over Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle-trained KUFOO (Dormane x Al Anqa), ridden by Jean Baptiste Hamel. The Umm Qarn colt finished a little over a length behind the winner for his runner-up spot while Ahmed Mohammed Kobeissi’s KHOR AL ADAID (Amer x Si Vous Plait) was third under Tomas Lukasek’s ride.

THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 4) (85 & below)

Khalifa Bin Ali Bin Mohammed Al Attiya’s TAMIH (Dark Angel x Mairead Anne), running his longest distance in Qatar so far, topped the 1700m race. The result meant that the Al Wasmiyah Farm colt registered his first victory in Qatar when Jean Baptiste Hamel guided him to a superb victory, going past the post a little less than six lengths ahead of Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi’s HYDROXIDE (Lope De Vega x Craighall), who was ridden by Pierantonio Convertino, while the Mohammed Hussain Afroz-schooled SUCCEED AND EXCEL (Exceed and Excel x Woodbeck) was third under Theo Bachelot.

Champion Trainer Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi and Champion Jockey Harry Bentley got together for their first victory of the day when Mansoor Ebrahim Al Mahmoud’s HIGH COMMANDER (Teofilo x Pellinore) raced to a commanding victory in the 2000m race. The 4yo, who was victorious only once coming into the race on Wednesday, beat the competition by five lengths, with Tomas Lukasek guiding Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani’s ward KING OF DOHA (Duke Of Marmalade x Bibury) to second spot, while Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle’s QATAR WEAVE (Soldier Of Fortune x Mosogna Moon) made it to third under Jean Baptiste Hamel.

Sheikh Jassim Bin Suhaim Al Thani’s SAHER ELLEIL AL SULAIMI (Za’eem ASF x Eau Aime) shed his maiden status on only his second outing in Qatar. JP Guillambert helmed the Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi-trained 5yo to a smashing five and a half lengths victory in the 1700m race on dirt, after finishing midfield over a mile on turf on his first outing at QREC. Marc Lerner rode Mohammed Salama Salim Ashour’s DIJLAH ZAKHIR (Munahis x Marikitah) to second place, having edged out Julian Colin Smart’s ward, HATEM (Amer x Massamarie), ridden by Theo Bachelot, by a nose for the runner-up spot.

Salem Fadgham Al Hajri’s MAGIC LINE (Pivotal x Magic Peak) bounced back from a disappointing finish on his last outing to register his first career win. Ridden by Stephan Ladjadj in the six-furlong sprint, the 5yo, who had finished 11th on his last maiden outing over 1850m, beat Mohammed Jassim Ghazali Jahromi’s DAIRA BRIDGE (Dream Ahead x Lady Livius), helmed by JP Guillambert, by half a length at the line, while Abdulla Sultan Ahmed Al Jabir’s ALMASAH (Intense Focus x Tullyorior Glory), under Theo Bachelot, had to settle for third by a nose.

The race for fillies saw Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki’s DAMSAH (Gio Ponti x Kitten Love) go one better than her last outing as Eduardo Pedroza rode the filly to a close win in the six furlong sprint. The Mohamed Abdulla Abdulmalik-owned 4yo had impressed when second in Qatar Oaks two weeks ago over a mile. Running for the first time on dirt in Qatar, Pedroza guided the filly past the line three quarters of a length ahead of Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi’s RAWDAT AL KHAIL (Falco x La Seine), ridden by Harry Bentley, while Hamad Ateeq Al Marri’s REEM BROOQ (Line Of David x Neon Lipstick) completed the top three under Jean Baptiste Hamel.

Zuhair Mohsen Zuhair Maki’s SAAR (Footstepsinthesand x Carahill) continued with his impressive form, finally notching up his first career win in the first race of the day. The Mohammed Abdulla Al Moadhadi’s horse had finished in the frame three times this season, including in the Local Thoroughbred Guineas, but on Wednesday, did enough to win comfortably. Ridden by Marvin Suerland, the gelding finished one and a half lengths ahead of Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi’s MUSAITER BU THAILA (Elusive City x Pomme D’Amour), under Pierantonio Convertino, while Owaida Salem Mohammed Al Hajri’s SHARHAN AZZAM (Dixie Music x Sandicliffe), under Tomas Lukasek, completed the top three.
