Casamento rides RECEDING WAVES to Umm Al Houl Cup victory

Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s RECEDING WAVES (Dick Turpin x Welanga) followed up his third place finish from three weeks ago with a thrilling win in a fantastic duel in the UMM AL HOUL CUP (THOROUGHBREDS) at the Al Rayyan Park dirt track on Wednesday. Trained by Mohammed Gassim Ghazali, the 6yo had Marco Casamento for company in the six furlong sprint, and the two found themselves alongside Astley Hall (Dutch Art x Haigh Hall), trained by Ghazali’s father and Champion Trainer, Gassim, in the home straight. At the post, the former edged the Al Moatasem Al Balushi ridden gelding by half a length for his seventh career win. Faleh Bughanaim helmed Abdulaziz Ali Al Kathiri’s Cristofano Allori (Shamardal x Perfect Touch) to third place.

Since a maiden victory over a mile in March this year, Injaaz Stud’s LEKHRAIB (AF AlBahar x Grace T) had never finished outside the top three, including two victories. That trend continued on Wednesday in the LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN CONDITIONS when Gassim Mohammad Ghazali’s ward registered his third victory in nine outings, and his first under jockey JP Guillambert. In the six furlong sprint, the 5yo edged out Hassan Ali Hassan Al Matwi’s Raqee, with Eduardo Pedroza in the saddle, by a mere nose.

Soufiane Saadi was once again in the saddle for AKMAR (No Risk Al Maury x Safa) in a claiming race on Wednesday. The 4yo had won a mile long claiming race on turf six days ago, and had since switched hands from Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle to Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani, and this time too, in the 1800m PUREBRED ARABIAN CLAIMING RACE (4yo and older) the colt picked up a fine win. Riding in the colours of Mohammed Nasser Al Naimi, Saadi and his mount won with a length and a half to spare.

Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s PERIGEE (Cacique x Purissima) built on a creditable return last week to register his fourth career win and third in Qatar. The Gassim Mohammad Ghazali trained 6yo, ridden by Marco Casamento for the first time, won the 1900m THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 3) (75-95) by a comfortable two and a half length beating Jimmy Quinn ridden Alizoom at the post.

Apprentice rider Meteb Ali Al Marri led a top three sweep by Qatari jockeys when he rode Bader Al Balushi trained BINT SAFFIAN (Arcano x Saffian) to a thrilling victory in the six furlong THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Fillies & Mares) (Class 5) (75 & below). Al Marri who had helmed Al Azraq Stud’s filly to a C&D victory in April, guided the 4yo to a close nose win over Reem Seattle, ridden by Al Marri’s brother, Rashid. Saleh Salem Al Marri was in the saddle for third placed Sylvia Pankhurst.

Osama Omer Al Dafea’s BAKER DE SAULARIE (Kerbella x Babiche De Saulari) went one better than his season opener to register his third career win. In the 1700m PUREBRED ARABIAN GRADUATION PLATE, the 5yo won in thrilling fashion edging out Anas Al Seyabi ridden AJS Al Moheeb and Faleh Bughanaim helmed Bsheer in a blanket finish, handing Ryan Curatolo his 10th victory in the season so far.

Abdulhadi Mana Al Hajri’s DORMAN BU THAILA (Mandour x Appleby) had been well held on all his three previous outings, the last of which was at the start of this season. On Wednesday however Stefano Ibido’s ward put up a fantastic show under Ivan Rossi when they ran the LOCAL THOROUGHBRED MAIDEN PLATE on dirt. In the 1700m run, the gelding won a duel with Fausto Henrique ridden Al Hadah by three quarters of a length to shed his maiden status.

Sheikh Faisal Bin Hamad Bin Jassim Al Thani’s FUWAIRAT (Amer x Sakina De Faust) halted a run of three second place finishes to register his first career victory on Wednesday. In the 1900m PUREBRED ARABIAN MAIDEN PLATE, Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki’s ward had Eduardo Pedroza for company and the two did enough to go past the post with a length and three quarters to spare for a fine victory.
