On Saturday 13th August, at Deauville, the Doha Cup (Gr1 PA) will take place, with six runners, four of whom are from Qatari connections.Majeed, owned by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani and trained by Alban de Mieulle, is coming off two victories at Duindigt (Pays-Bas). Now a 6yo, the horse has found a new lease of life, as he showed this winter at Doha, where he won two races, including the best race for Qatar-bred horses.
Alban de Mieulle also presents Djelamer, who carries the colors of Khalifa Hamad Al Attiyah. Also a winner at Duindigt, he is coming off a fourth place in a Listed race at La Teste.
Julian Smart also has two runners, for H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani. Gazwan, winner of the last Emir’s Sword (Gr1 PA) will be making his seasonal debut in this race. Reda is not quite the same class, and is coming off a loss at Newbury, in the race won by Sylvine Al Maury. The latter is one of the best older fillies, and could soon add a Gr1 to her record.
Finally, Thomas Fourcy saddles Ibn Azadi, running for the first time in a Gr1, with a secondary chance.
