In the colours of Qatar Racing Limited, the 2-year-old filly HEART REEF broke her maiden on first time of asking at Haydock this Friday in the British EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes. Trained by Ralph Beckett, she sat towards the outside in this mile race. Jockey Tom Marquand began to ask her to accelerate just over two furlongs out. Showing her inexperience, she took time to find her balance, before coming easily up to take the lead. Once in front, she pricked her ears and was never troubled, winning by 1 ½ lengths with plenty in hand. The Ladas-owned and John Mackie-trained RAINBOW JET was second under Jimmy Quinn. The Mark Johnston-trained and Franny Norton-ridden TULIP FIELDS was a further nose behind in third.
HEART REEF was bought as a yearling at the Arqana August Yearling Sale 2018 from Écurie des Monceaux. She is smartly bred, by Derby-winning sire AUSTRALIA and out of a half-sister to Arc heroine DANEDREAM.
