Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s HYDROXIDE takes Al Huwaila Cup victory

Out of form in the Gr 3 Barzan Cup last month, Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s HYDROXIDE (Lope De Vega x Craighall) bounced back with a thrilling victory in the AL HUWAILA CUP (THOROUGHBREDS (Class 2)) at the Al Rayyan Park dirt track on Wednesday. Starting wide from Gate 7 under JP Guillambert, the Gassim Mohammad Ghazali-schooled gelding was running on the surface for the first time since a sprint in November last year, but was up for the task going past the post three quarters of a length ahead of the Mohammed Gassim Ghazali-trained ALTARSHEED (Lilbourne Lad x Lilakiya) as Al Kuwari’s colours locked out the top two spots in the race. Harry Bentley rode the 6YO to his second straight runner up finish, edging out Hamad Ahmed Al Malki Al Jehani’s RICH HISTORY (Dubawi x Polished Gem), guided by Faleh Bughanaim, by a quarter of a length.

After opening the season with a midfield finish a month ago, Umm Qarn’s GOLD AMER (Amer x Al Hanoof) entered the winners’ circle for the second time in his career on Wednesday. Trained by Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle, the colt took to the dirt track for the first time when he lined up for the PUREBRED ARABIAN HANDICAP. In the 1800m run, under a fantastic ride by Ronan Thomas, the 4YO picked up a breezy three-length victory; his second in five races.

Shaheen Bin Khalid Shaheen Al Ghanim’s JACKO (Dark Angel x Tartessian) was back in the winners’ circle two weeks after shedding his maiden status under Marco Casamento. The jockey was back in the saddle for the Gassim Mohammad Ghazali-saddled 3YO, and the two picked up a thrilling victory in the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 4) (80 & below). Jacko won by three quarters of a length in the 1700m race.

Al Naif Racing’s FAHDAH AL NAIF (Amer x Midjal) built on her C&D third place to enter the winners enclosure for the third time in her career. Trained by Champion Trainer Gassim Mohammad Ghazali, the 7YO had Marco Casamento in the saddle for the LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN HANDICAP (80 & below) and they won the 1700m run in a thrilling finish, beating the Mohammed Riyaz Ibrahim Kasim-saddled Saa’d by half a length at the post.

Mohammed Nasser Al Naimi’s NORMANDIE ATTACK (Kenderagent x Agenda) was back in the winners’ circle for only the second time this calendar year. The horse had last won over C&D in a handicap in January and on Wednesday was back a winner in the 1900m THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 5) (70 & below). With Soufiane Saadi in the saddle, the 5YO raced to a spectacular six and a half-length victory for his second career win.

Al Jeryan Stud’s SARAT ABHA (Footstepsinthesand x Shesamystery) opened the season on a promising note with a third place finish and since then had notched a victory and a runner up place coming into the LOCAL THOROUGHBRED GRADUATION PLATE. In the six-furlong sprint on Wednesday, Tomas Lukasek helmed the Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani-schooled filly to her second C&D victory, winning by four and a quarter lengths.

After closing out his previous season with a maiden victory, Al Jasra Stud’s CONNERY (Clodovil x Ringarooma) opened the new season in promising fashion a week ago, finishing second under Ivan Rossi. Rossi was astride Ahmed Mohamad Kobeissi’s ward again, with the two lining up for the THOROUGHBRED GRADUATION PLATE (Class 5). The competition had little chance once the gelding got going on the home stretch before eventually winning by a dominant six and a quarter lengths.

Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik’s SEEYOUBYME (Siyouni x Peinted Song) made a winning debut to his career on Wednesday. Saddled by Deborah Amanda Clare Mountain, the 3YO lined up in the THOROUGHBRED MAIDEN PLATE (Class 6) under Ryan Curatolo. The duo had little trouble to register an easy four and a quarter-length victory.

Two weeks after shedding his maiden status, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalid Bin Nasser Al Thani’s HAZM AL SULAIMI (TM Fred Texas x Hasna) made it two C&D victories in a row on Wednesday. In the six-furlong sprint on dirt, Gassim Mohammad Ghazali’s ward was under Harry Bentley once again and the two breezed past the post with three and a half lengths to spare in the LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN NOVICE PLATE.
