Nasser Al Eida’s RETURN TO SENDERS wins Marmi Cup

Nasser Saeed Al Eida’s RETURN TO SENDERS (IRE) has acquitted himself as a fairly useful colt when he landed a Thoroughbred Plate over 1200m on dirt in November. He then came seventh in Al Rayyan Stakes, but he bounced back on Wednesday to repeat his success over C&D and land Marmi Cup (3YO Thoroughbreds/Class 2), feature of the race meeting, at QREC Al Rayyan Park with two and a half lengths to spare. It was also a quick double fire victory for the trainer and the jockey.

The Umm Qarn-bred & owned SEALINE (QA) has been progressing in leaps and bounds and was expected to take plenty of beating in the 1200m Purebred Arabian Handicap (0-90). The Alban de Mieulle-trained 6YO grey son of AMER proved that it was hard to look beyond him and continued improvement at a very rapid rate making it 5 wins in 7 starts. Khalifa bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s ROYDEYNA (QA) continued the good work as a useful mare as she managed to get the better of the principals in the Local Bred Thoroughbreds (Fillies & Mares). While she is still lightly raced, the Gassim Mohammad Ghazali-trained bay mare of INTENSE FOCUS (USA) was able to be the first to cross the finish line with a short head to spare under Marco Casamento, who recorded his second win in the meeting.

In the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate (Class 6), the Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki-owned & trained HESSDALEN (GB) progressed again and after finding only one too good in a 1600m handicap on turf last month, he managed to get off the mark in his fifth attempt winning the 1900m event by half a length with Ronan Thomas in the saddle.

Following a good second over 1700m last time, Abu Fass Stud’s SAA’D (QA) enjoyed the trip up and won the opener of the day.
