QREC-sponsored Gr1/PA Doha and Al Rayyan Cups at Deauville tomorrow

Deauville racecourse will host the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club (QREC)-sponsored Doha Cup (Prix Manganate), a Group One 2,000 metre race for four-year-old and older pure Arabians, and Al Rayyan Cup (Prix Kesberoy) a Group One 2,000 metre race for three-year-old pure Arabians, tomorrow, Saturday, 10 August 2019. The two annual events are held as part of the QREC’s vision to promote Qatar as a leader in the pure Arabian breed and enhance the standing of Arabian racing by holding such events at the most prestigious racecourses in Europe and the world.

Four Qatari-owned runners in Doha Cup

The Doha Cup will start at 05:25 pm Doha time with nine runners, four of whom are for Qatari connections. The HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani-owned and A. Watrigant-trained MARID will have Olivier Peslier in the saddle. The four-year-old won the the Al Rayyan Cup (Gr1/PA) for 3YO pure Arabians on the same day and at the same racecourse last year. He then went on to land the Qatar Arabian Trophy des Poulains (Gr1/PA) at St. Cloud in October 2018. The H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani-owned and Julian Smart-trained MAXR will be ridden by Maxime Guyon. The four-year-old was the runner-up of the HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani Silver Cup at Al Rayyan Park, Doha, in January this year. Thomas Fourcy has two runners carrying the colours of Al Shaqab Racing. The seven-year-old KHATAAB, who was the runner-up of the Qatar Arabian World Cup (Gr1/PA) at ParisLongchamp in October 2018, will be guided by Jerome Cabre while the five-year-old RIJM, the winner of the Qatar Derby (Gr2/PA) at Al Rayyan Park in December last year, will be ridden by Julien Auge.

The other five runners include black type winners as well. The K. Van Den Bos-trained AKOYA will have Theo Bachelot as his companion. The five-year-old has two Gr3/PA wins under his belt and both were recorded at Millan in June 2019 and October 2018. The Ch. Gourdain-trained DUPLEIX will be ridden by Ioritz Mendizabal. A. Watrigant-trained AOUN, winner of a Gr3/PA at Ostende in July 2018, will be steered by Roberto-Carlos Montenegro. The D. Guillemin-trained DERYAN, a Gr1/PA at Chantilly in June 2018 and a Gr3/PA at La Teste in April 2019, will be ridden by Francois-Xavier Bertras. Finally, the Y. Mathijs-trained MAELLA DE PIBOUL will have Florent Malbran in the saddle. The eight-year-old mare was the runner-up of a Gr2/PA at Ostende in July this year.

Another quadruple for Qatari connections in Al Rayyan Cup

The Al Rayyan Cup will start at 06:00 pm Doha time with six runners, including four for Qatari owners. The HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani-owned and D. Guillemin-trained AL HAZM, who was the runner-up of the 2019 renewal of the Qatar Coupe de France des Chevaux Arabes (Gr2/PA) at Chantilly in June, will be ridden by Olivier Peslier. Al Shaqab Racing will have their colours represented by another couple of runners in this race and both are trained by Thomas Fourcy. Jerome Cabre will be astride MOUNJARED AL CHAM, who was the runner-up of the Prix Tidjani (Gr3 / PA) at La Teste in July this year, while Julien Auge will guide UM TAJ, who was the runner-up of the Prix Razzia III (Gr 3 / PA) at the same racecourse and on that day as well. Thomas Fourcy will saddle a third runner and she is the Sheail bin Khalifa Al Kuwari-owned LADY PRINCESS, who will be steered by Julien Auge.

The first of the other two runners is the E. Dell’ova-trained GUYTHOUN DE CARRERE, who came third behind MOUNJARED AL CHAM in the Prix Tidjani (Gr3 / PA). He will be ridden by Roberto-Carlos Montenegro. The other is the P. Sogorb-trained MINSTREL and he will be ridden by Stephane Pasquier.
