Rashid Ali Al Marri rides DARKANNA to thrilling Al Mamoura Cup victory

Al Thumama Racing’s DARKANNA (Dark Angel x Jadanna) registered her second victory of the season when the Mohammed Hussain Afroz trained filly registered a thrilling victory in the AL MAMOURA CUP (THOROUGHBREDS (Class 2)) on Thursday at the Al Rayyan Park Turf. In the seven furlong run, the filly was helmed by Qatari rider Rashid Ali Al Marri and the duo did enough to hold off a challenge by Al Moatasem Al Balushi ridden ANIMA ROCK (Shamalgan x Carnet De Bal), saddled by Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi, to win by half a length at the post. The victory was Al Marri’s 13th this season. Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki schooled SHOBROM (Acclamation x Strasbourg Place) completed the top three under Anas Al Seyabi.

Umm Qarn’s DABAAB (Munjiz x Haifaa) led a one-two for trainer Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle on Thursday. In the mile long PUREBRED ARABIAN CONDITIONS, Mathieu Pelletan, who had earlier helmed the filly to two other victory this season, was in the saddle once again and the duo did not disappoint, racing to a comfortable two length victory ahead of Al Naama, ridden by Faleh Bughanaim in the colours of Al Shaqab Racing.

Tomas Lukasek’s third winner of the day was BAB AL RAYYAN (Mayson x Dorothy’s Dancing), who may have been out of the winner’s circle last two times despite two straight victories early on in the season but the colt bounced back on Thursday. Owned by Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi, the 4yo improved his strike rate for trainer Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki racing to his third career victory, but first under Lukasek, in the seven furlong LOCAL THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (70-90).

A light season perhaps helped Sheikh Faisal Bin Hamad Bin Jassim Al Thani’s YVANLEND (Pivotal x Helen Glaz) as the gelding notched his third victory from six outings this season on Thursday. In the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 3) (70-90), the 4yo, ridden by Anas Al Seyabi, took a fine a length and a quarter victory over Julian Colin Smart’s charge, Off He Goes, in the 2200m run.

Trainer Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani and Tomas Lukasek combined well for the second straight race on Thursday for a win. In the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 3) (70-90), Al Jeryan Stud’s RANDOM DECISION (Exceed and Excel x Connote) led a one-two for the trainer, with Faleh Bughanaim guiding On The Front Line to runner up spot a length behind in the six furlong sprint. The win was Random Decision’s first in almost a year.

Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani schooled SUPREMATISM (More Than Ready x Exotic Behavior) raced to his second victory despite a busy season. In his 14th outing this season, Ali Yousuf Al Kubaisi’s colt did enough under a fantastic ride by Tomas Lukasek to pick up a thrilling victory in a blanket finish to the 1850m THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 4) (85 & below), edging out Anas Al Seyabi ridden Severini and Jimmy Quinn helmed Al Gazi by a short head.

Qatari jockey Ali Khalid Al Mosallam rode his second winner in as many days when he helmed FAZAN (Nizam x Ultafa Al Maury) to the colt’s second victory this season on Thursday. After winning a handicap a month ago, the Mohamed Khaled Elahmed trained colt was far from impressive last time round. However, the Rashid Mohd Al Mosallam owned colt bounced back with a close quarter length victory, which was also Al Mosallam’s third this season.

Al Shaqab Racing’s MEBLISH (Dahess x Digama) registered his first career win on his third outing. Saddled by Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle, the 4yo was helmed by Qatari jockey Faleh Bughanaim in the PUREBRED ARABIAN MAIDEN PLATE (3-6yo), and the colt was in fine form in the miler. Bughanaim and Meblish combined well as the two went past the post three lengths and three quarters ahead of the competition for a comfortable victory.

Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s TILAL (Helmet x Last Rhapsody) went one better than her last outing to shed her maiden status in the card opener on Thursday. Mohammed Jassim Ghazali Jahromi’s charge had shown improved in her first two starts, finishing within the frame both the times, including a runner up over C&D last time. In the mile long LOCAL THOROUGHBRED MAIDEN PLATE, the 4yo was ridden by JP Guillambert to a fantastic victory with four lengths and a quarter to spare.
