SAQR (FR), in the colours of Sheail Bin Khalifa Al Kuwari, was a convincing winner on debut when he won the Prix Du Coq Chantant at Chantilly this morning, Friday, 19 June. There were four runners in this newcomer’s race for two-year-old colts over 1,100 meters on the straight. Very professional in the stalls, SAQR was quickly away and led his rivals on the stand’s side rail. Once in the final furlong, jockey Mickael Barzalona asked him for an effort and he pulled clear to win by two and a half lengths. The Y. Barberot-trained and Maxime Guyon-ridden ARTOUILLE (FR) was the runner-up. The A. Marcialis-trained SIR MAURICE (FR) was a further short head behind in third under Pierre-Charles Boudot

Fabrice Chappet, the winning trainer, commented after the race, “He’s a good-looking colt who works well. He is my first two-year-old runner. He has always been very forward in his work. Like the good sons of Dutch Art, he has plenty of speed and will continue running over sprint distances.”
