TAXIWALA sprints to Ain Khaled Cup victory under Faleh Bughanaim

Osama Omer Al Dafea’s TAXIWALA (Holy Roman Emperor x It’s True) improved on his third-place finish from a week ago to enter the winner’s circle for only the first time in Qatar on Thursday when the gelding topped the AIN KHALED CUP (THOROUGHBREDS (Class 2)) on the turf track at Al Rayyan Park. The 3yo had Qatari rider Faleh Bughanaim for company in the six-furlong sprint and the result meant that the jockey registered his eighth win of the season. At the post, Luca Maniezzi helmed Abdulhadi Mana Al Hajri’s DOMINUS (Zoffany x Gwen Lady Byron), trained by Stefano Ibido, to a close second three-quarters of a length behind the winner. Ronan Thomas rode Gassim Mohammad Ghazali schooled IZZTHATRIGHT (Moss Vale x Miss Adelaide) to a third-place finish in the colours of Injaaz Stud.

Al Shahania Stud’s RAJEH (Jaafer x Nelka) was the tenth winner of the season for Qatari rider Meteb Ali Al Marri. On Thursday, in the PUREBRED ARABIAN CONDITIONS, the Gassim Mohammad Ghazali saddled horse started widest of the seven strong field but had little trouble when on the home straight in the 2200m run, taking the advantage and picking up a fine win by two lengths. It was Ghazali’s second straight victory on the day.

Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s LUCHADOR (Holy Roman Emperor x Bride Unbridled) registered her second straight victory and her third win this season when she topped the THOROUGHBRED CONDITIONS (Fillies & Mares) (Class 2). On Thursday, in the seven-furlong run, the Gassim Mohammad Ghazali trained 4yo led a sweep of the top three positions for the champion trainer with Tomas Lukasek helming the winner, and Luca Maniezzi and Soufiane Saadi riding Festive and Wayside Flower to second and third place respectively.

The colours of Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi entered the winner’s circle for the second straight time when BLACK PEARL (Footstepsinthesand x Ella) improved his strike rate on Thursday. The Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki trained gelding had only once missed out on a victory when he was second over C&D last time round last month. Under Leo Salles in the seven-furlong LOCAL THOROUGHBRED CONDITIONS, he led a one-two for the trainer after Anas Al Seyabi guided Shaman Bu Thaila to second place.

Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi’s PAZEER (Siyouni x Parandeh) went one better than his last outing over C&D to register his first victory of the season. Ridden by Soufiane Saadi for the first time, Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki’s ward started wide from the 10th gate in the THOROUGHBRED CONDITIONS (Class 2). The 6yo found himself took the advantage in the 2000m run and stayed on to win by one and a half lengths.

Al Shaqab Racing’s MEBLISH (Dahess x Digama) may have been out of depths in H.H. The Amir Sword (GR1 PA) last month, but the Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle trained horse was back in the winner’s circle on Thursday. The 5yo added a third win to his lists, all three over C&D, when Ronan Thomas helmed him to a thrilling victory in the PUREBRED ARABIAN HANDICAP (90 & above) edging out the rivals by a neck.

Mubarak Bin Saeed Aljafai Al Naimi’s AL SHOMOS (Shamardal x Gulbarg) raced to her second straight victory with Carlos Henrique in the saddle on Thursday. In the longest trip of her career at 2200m, the Majed Mahadi Seifeddine saddled mare was unstoppable once on the home straight in the LOCAL THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (4yo & older 70-90), as the 5yo went past the post six and a half lengths ahead of the competition.

Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki’s HESSDALEN (Sea The Stars x Moonlight’s Box) raced to his second victory this season bouncing back from a forgettable finish over C&D last month. The gelding was 10th in a handicap last month before moving up to third earlier this month. On Thursday, in the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 4) (80 & below), Mustafa Manav rode his first winner of the season when he guided the 4yo to a thrilling victory by a head in the 2000m run.
