Ahmed Mohamad Kobeissi schooled SRAAB (High Chaparral x Marie Dora) won for the first time since February 2017 when Ray Fuentes guided the 9yo to a close finish over Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani’s Al Lusail and stablemate Footprintinthesand in the Ras Laffan CUP for Local Thoroughbreds.
JAZALAH (No Risk Al Maury x Haifaa) was the second straight winner on the day for Umm Qarn and French trainer Alban Elie Marie de Mieulle as Mathieu Pelletan steered the filly to a victory in the Umm Salal Oaks Trial for Purebred Arabians (4yo fillies).

Khalid Rashid Al Mohannadi’s NORTHERN BEAM (Teofilo x Raaya) picked off from where she left off in France, winning on her Qatar debut for trainer Rashid Mohammed Al Jehani in the 1850m Umm Salal Oaks Trial for Thoroughbreds (3yo fillies). The filly had won her last two starts in France before moving to Qatar and under Stephan Ladjadj completed a hat-trick of wins.

Running the distance for the first time in 18 months, the Yousef Ben Taher Mehaoued-trained MONTASER (Domestic Fund x My Sweet Natalie) registered his fifth career win in the Local Thoroughbreds event. With Jean Baptiste Hamel in the saddle, the gelding won the six furlong sprint with two and a half lengths in hand.
The Marco Casamento-ridden AJS WATHANAN (Amer x Mangaline Du Loup) held off a late challenge by Osama Omer Al Dafea’s Evolution Du Croate to win a thriller for trainer Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi in the mile-long Purebred Arabian Handicap (90 & below).
After going winless last season and being well beaten in the first race of the new season, the Mohamed Rashid Seif Al Kuwari-trained NEW HOPE (Exceed and Excel x Great Hope) won a cracker of a race under Shakir Al Balushi beating Rashid Ali Al Marri-ridden Magic Line by a head at the line for the Thoroughbred Handicap (Class 5) (75 & below).
AJS MOADDIE (AF Albahar x Gabie De Carrere) was the second straight winner on the day for Al Jeryan Stud and trainer Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani as the colt comfortably won the mile-long Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate (3 Year Olds). The colt ran C&D for the second straight time under Faleh Bughanaim, and unlike the fourth place finish last time round, shed his maiden status on Thursday.
Al Jeryan Stud’s ARABIC CHANNEL (English Channel x Mahogany Lane) shed his maiden status in the Thoroughbred Plate (2 Year Olds) (Class 2) with a fine win under Tomas Lukasek. The six-furlong sprint was the first race in Qatar for Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani’s ward.
