To round up the evening for Al Shahania, THE SHARD became the third consecutive homebred winner of the evening when taking the Prix de la Chalosse, a 3-year-old maiden race over a mile. Again, in the care of trainer Philippe Sogorb.
THE SHARD, who is by the great Pivotal, was making his fourth racecourse appearance having played runner up on two former occasions. Drawn wide, he went forward once out of the gates and sat up on the lead alongside CHOP VAL (Amarillo), the eventual third. Once in the straight, the two leaders pulled clear and THE SHARD quickly asserted his authority under jockey Olivier Peslier. A strong late run from GELINOTTE came too late to trouble him, and he won by a 1/4 length, easing down as he crossed the line.
