Less than an hour after SAIGA’s victory, USAK (Al Kazeem) provided a second homebred Listed success when winning the Prix F.B.A. – Amyeri de Mauleon, again in the care of trainer Philippe Sogorb. The 3-year-old colt was ridden by Jean-Bernard Eyquem, and as having his third start in this race. He won on his debut in February and had quickly followed that up with a second place in a Class 2.

This was USAK’s first attempt at Stakes level, and he proved more than capable of the challenge! Running over mile, there was a decent early pace and Usak settled in the rearguard for the majority of the race. Once in the long straight, his jockey pulled him out into the center of the track. Making up ground steadily, once at the 2 furlong marker, he put on an impressive burst of speed to guarantee victory. He won by a length in front of Thunderspeed (Night of Thunder), who was already Stakes placed before this race.

USAK is the first foal out of Qatari Elegance, a daughter of the great Giant’s Causeway, who was a consistent race mare herself for H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani, though she retired a maiden.
