Thomas guides ALHAZM to fantastic Loyalty Cup victory

ALHAZM (Acclamation x Mikkwa) completed a double for Al Shaqab Racing and trainer Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle with the colt topping the LOYALTY CUP (Thoroughbred Handicap, 75-95, Class 3) on turf at QREC Al Rayyan Park on Thursday, 7 March. The colt was outclassed last month in the H.H. The Amir Trophy, but bounced back for a second victory this season. In the 2000m run, Ronan Thomas was in the saddle and the duo did enough to beat Hamad Ahmed Al Malki Al Jehani’s Rich History (Dubawi x Polished Gem), ridden by Jean Baptiste Hamel, by two lengths, while the Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki-saddled Perfect Storm (Excelebration x Lady Miletrian) completed the top three under Eduardo Pedroza.

Ronan Thomas was in the saddle for Al Shaqab Racing’s GTNAH (TM Fred Texas x Mayada) as the filly notched her third victory from fifth outings this season. Schooled by Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle, she lasted the distance winning a 2200m run in January, and on Thursday, the 4yo won her second miler when Thomas rode her to a comfortable one and a half-length victory in the Purebred Arabian run for 4 Year Olds.

Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s HYDROXIDE (Lope De Vega x Craighall) registered his second victory this season when the gelding was ridden to a fine one length victory on Thursday. Ridden by Harry Bentley for Champion Trainer Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi, the 5yo topped the mile-long Thoroughbred Handicap (75-95, Class 3) beating the JP Guillambert-helmed Al Maftoon, saddled by the winning trainer’s son, Mohammed.

ON THE FRONT LINE (War Front x Aristocratic Lady) made it two in two for trainer Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani and jockey Tomas Lukasek. Stepping down in distance from 2000m, the Nasser Owaida Salem Al Hajri-owned colt brushed aside a forgettable run last month to win in thrilling fashion in the seven-furlong Thoroughbred Handicap (85 & below, Class 4). The 6yo won with a quarter of a length to spare ahead of the Harry Bentley-ridden Noble Masterpiece.

Barring a disappointing Trial race last month, Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani’s ward, LATAMAH (Pivotal x Poseidon’s Bride), had impressed with her runs this season and on Thursday, the filly raced to her second victory this season, the first being the Qatar Oaks, under Tomas Lukasek. In the seven-furlong Local Thoroughbred Handicap (70-90), the Al Jeryan Stud’s filly beat a trio trained by Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki; namely, Bab Al Rayyan, Damsah and Mister Lal – for the win.

The trainer-jockey duo of Julian Colin Smart and Ryan Curatolo notched a hat-trick for the colours of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani as the Australian bred OFF HE GOES (Casino Prince x Perfectly Stunning) brushed aside a forgettable start to the season, notching his second victory on turf on Thursday. In the Thoroughbred Handicap (4yo & older, Class 4) (85 & below), the 5yo, running the longest distance of his career at 2800m, beat the Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki-saddled duo, Severini and Yvanlend, at the post for fourth career victory.

Julian Colin Smart’s second straight winner on the day was H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s MAXR (Jaafer ASF x Al Shahania Aseala). The 4YO gelding had not finished outside the frame in his first two races, and he did even better with Ryan Curatolo in the saddle for the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate. Maxr beat stablemate Taish, ridden by Ali Khalid Al Mosallam, by two and a quarter lengths to win the 2400m race.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s MEERA (Namid x Dutchess of Doha) continued her progression well as the Julian Colin Smart-trained filly registered her maiden victory in the card opener on Thursday. In the mile-long Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate, the 4yo was ridden by Ryan Curatolo and the duo did well to beat the Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi-trained duo, Al Motanaa and Insijam, by a quarter of a length in a thrilling finish.
