Sporting the colours of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, Al Doha (Al Mourtajez) continued to shine at top level when landing the Gr.1 (PA) The President of the UAE Cup - Coupe d’Europe des Chevaux Arabes at ParisLongchamp on Sunday, 12th May 2024, adding a second Gr1 victory to her record. Trained by Thomas Fourcy and ridden by Mickael Barzalona, the five-year-old Purebred Arabian mare was sent off favourite in the six-runner contest, for four-year-olds an older over 2,000m, and delivered with authority.

With Socrates (AF Albahar) leading at an honest pace, Al Doha was happy to wait in last as usual. Travelling well entering the home straight, she had to be good to eventually win by three quarters of a length ahead of a very tough Moshrif (Dahess) in second. Rb Kingmaker (Baseq Al Khalediah) took third being further two lengths behind.

“On the card, it’s not a surprise”, said the winning trainer after the race, “But she’s a mare who always takes a little while to get back to her best. It’s only her second Gr.1 (PA) success while she has already beaten some very good horses. She really deserved a second Gr.1 (PA) victory. At Al Rayyan, she ran really well behind the greatest Al Ghadeer and Abbes who was at home and on a ground that she did not really like. Today the ground was not as quick and with easier opposition. I was only scared of Moshrif. All options are open for the rest of the season. I’m very happy to make His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani happy by landing another Gr.1 (PA) with this mare.”

Bred by Al Shaqab Racing, Al Doha is out of Topaze Du Croate (Dormane), and a half-sister to Gr.3 (PA) placed Hajadie Du Croate (AF Albahar) and Gr.3 (PA) placed Farida Du Croate (AF Albahar).
